Sami Pajari to take part in the European Rally Championship - “A superb opportunity”

FIA Junior World Rally Championship star Sami Pajari, who finished the JWRC season third last year and is currently second in points this season, takes on a new additional challenge: Pajari is set to compete also in the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) this season.

First the sights are set on Poland, where the ERC season will start on gravel in no less than two weeks time. Pajari will be joined in the car by Enni Mälkönen reading the pace notes. Enni and Sami shared the car already in the WRC season opener at the Arctic Circle of Finland in January. There the pair was already unbeatable and claimed an easy victory in their class, promising a good basis for the outing in Poland.

“This is a superb opportunity to gain more experience in competing in international events. That aside, of course we are here to win! This season we focus on the international rallies and will participate in only a few smaller events in addition to JWRC and ERC rallies, so all mileage on the stages is vital,” Pajari lays out the plans for the year.

ERC3 Junior, the class for Rally4 cars

The FIA European Rally Championship consists of 6 events of which 5 will be included in the final championship points for each competitor. Four of the events will be competed on tarmac and remaining two on gravel. The ERC3 Junior class also has an attractive award: the champion gets to drive the next ERC Junior season with a 4-wheel-drive M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally3 car, a step up from the 2-wheel-drive Rally4 Fiesta.

“A huge thanks to our main sponsor of the event, who made it possible for us to start the ERC season already. We are working hard to make it possible for us to drive the whole season in Europe.“

“It is great to get to compete in Poland! M-Sport Poland has built a wonderful development program for both JWRC and ERC and of course the event in Poland is their home event, so it’s nice to be able to join this event especially”, Pajari concludes.
