Sami Pajari is aiming for top spots in Rome this weekend
Sami Pajari and Marko Salminen didn't have long to celebrate their Junior WRC victory at Rally Estonia before it was time to head out to Rome and the third ERC round of the season. Pajari fights for fame in two classes of the European Rally Championship: ERC3 and ERC3 Junior. After two gravel events, Pajari leads the championship in both classes.
Rally di Roma Capitale consists of 14 special stages with a total length of about 190 kilometers. The rally HQ is in the city of Fiuggi, about an hour’s drive southeast of Rome. In addition to the shakedown, Friday’s program will include a ceremonial start at St. Angelo Castle and a short super special stage near the Colosseum.
- Nice to be back racing again, we had a brief pre-event test session on Wednesday and the car feels good. It is very hot in here at the moment and temperatures are forecasted to be well above 30 degrees for the whole duration of the rally.
On Saturday and Sunday, the route will run around Fiuggi, offering slower mountainous hairpin sections, narrow roads passing through little villages as well as much faster-paced sections with jumps. On Sunday at 6 pm, the drivers will arrive at the finish line in Fiuggi.
- We had good pace on tarmac in WRC Croatia, it is still difficult to say how fast the other guys are on tarmac in our class, but I think it is going to be a tight fight. We hear the tarmac is a bit slippery here, so you have to be careful with the grip changes.
Pajari's goal in Rome is to keep the well-run summer season going as it has been.
- The history can be felt everywhere here, for our part we try to put our name in the history books of this event in the form of success.
