Pajari to hunt for WRC3 championship in 2022
Pajari to hunt for WRC3 championship in 2022 - “We believe this is the best step towards one day becoming a World Rally Champion”
The Junior World Rally Champion of 2021 Sami Pajari and his crew have finalized their plans for the 2022 season.
The main objectives for the season are achieving the now Rally3 class based WRC3 championship and additionally gaining experience at international rallies in Europe. The WRC3 season is in fact already underway with full points secured for Pajari from the season opener Rallye Monte-Carlo. With four best results out of five entered events counting to the final points, Pajari already has an early good grip on the main target.
The regulations allow Pajari to participate again in the Junior WRC series, which also switched to the same 4WD Rally3 cars for this season, and thus eye for a double crowning at the end of the season. Similarly to WRC3, the JWRC season also includes five events of which four best results are counted towards the final points. Additionally JWRC has maintained its stage win points system for the fastest stage times, which proved to be a key aspect in Pajari’s JWRC hunt during the last two years.
Pajari’s season of 2022 will also include a few outings in a Rally2 car. While the rest of the occurrences are yet to be decided, Pajari’s first ever competitive Rally2 drive is scheduled to take place already in less than weeks’ time at a Finnish Rally Championship event, where he is joined by Enni Mälkönen in a Ford Fiesta Rally2.
For claiming the 2021 Junior World Rally Championship Pajari was awarded with the choice between two lucrative prizes: either becoming the owner of an M-Sport prepared Ford Fiesta Rally2 or an all-inclusive package of five events in an M-Sport serviced Ford Fiesta Rally3. Both options also included 200 Pirelli tyres to compete with.
“In the end we decided to pick the Rally3 option as we believe this to be the best step towards one day becoming a World Rally Champion in the main category. This wonderful package allows us to gain mileage and experience at international events on all surfaces and get used to driving a 4WD car,” Pajari reasons the decision.
